Day 1 – A change in leadership

Will it lead to a turning of the tide?

We opened the day at 1:30 pm and already we have some major changes are in store. A new moderator – Elder Cynthia Bolbach of National Capital Presbytery took the reigns at approximately 11:00 pm. Receiving the gifts and symbols of the moderator from outgoing leader of the assembly, Rev. Bruce Reyes Chow, Elder Bolbach pledged to lead the church and its members as a faithful representative of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) throughout the world. In conversations earlier in the evening Bolbach had compared the church’s leaders to the friends of the paralyzed man and the congregations of the denomination to the man himself who needed to get to Jesus so the healing could begin. Earlier in the evening assembly attendees learned that the Presbyterian Church at the rate of current decline the denomination will be extinct in the year 2042 (per moderator candidate Jin S. Kim. With six outstanding candidates resulting and a few technical glitches the voting process took several rounds and many “tests” of the equipment asking whether or not we ate dinner. Who would have guessed that one would have to answer that question seven times during a business meeting. Perhaps with important questions like that out of the way we can look forward to the issues at hand and help the church to heal in the process. Stay tuned, you never know what tomorrow will bring…

With peace and a smile,

Holly
